[S2Spod] Is Kevin Gausman still tipping pitches? After his rough outing vs. the Rockies, I couldn’t help but think it was similar to other poor outings where they seemed to know what was coming.

This thread seems to suggest that Jake Cave has transferred some tipping knowledge from 2022 twins to 2023 Phillies to 2024 Rockies leading to all 3 teams seemingly being able to know when the splitter is comming.

  1. The other explanation is that Gausman, a two pitch pitcher, is more susceptible to bad outings if one of his pitches aren’t clicking.

Adding a cutter or a sinker as a fallback option might help keep hitters from swinging at the splitter by creating velocity disparity at the same spot.

  2. He was hanging all his breaking balls, missing on his fast ball. If he was getting lit up I doubt it was cuz he was tipping and more so that he just doesn’t have it right now

  3. Maybe teams are just coming around to the “if it’s low, let it go. If it’s high, let it fly”
